Google Dominates My Online Life

With so few people using MSN search or Yahoo search, Google has begun to dominate online life.

Now that everything is online, Microsoft has seemingly fallen a little behind. I don’t know anyone personally that uses Hotmail as their primary email address, nor do I know anyone that uses MSN Search to find things on the web. By contrast, I know a lot of people that have come to rely on Google and Gmail. Speaking for myself — and it’s a very scary thought — but Google has come to dominate my online experience, and thus, a very large portion of my life. After all, as a freelance writer who predominantly works on web-based projects, I spend a lot of time staring at a computer screen and almost all the work is related to the online universe in some way.

Heck Of A Guy 2006: Who's There?

Getting listed on MSN Search is easier than getting listed on Google.

Search engines may index some sites several times a day, other sites once a month, and still others not at all. If a wonderful post is written on the 3rd but doesn’t find its way into the Google index until the 17th, its peak readership is likely to be at least two weeks after its publication. The Yahoo and MSN search engines indexed Heck Of A Guy only a couple of weeks after it opened, but Google didn’t include it until two to three months later.

No Happy Ending

A trip to Hamman lands Fidel Gastro's high in MSN rankings for 'naked men'.

2 weeks, 0 posts, £0.15 in AdSense and 98 visitors looking for ‘naked men’ on MSN Search arriving to Fidel Gastro’s (at least when I started writing this) - therefore if it’s naked men you want then it’s tales of naked men you’ll get.
